STEP 2: WE COLLECT AND PAY
We’ll collect the vehicle from your premises and make a direct payment into your bank account, which is a legal requirement. If you don’t have the keys or the necessary documents, it’s not an issue. We can still take your vehicle for scrapping. We have specialised equipment that allows us to transport vehicles under various conditions.
However, we do require proof of ownership, which can be established using documents other than the V5C, such as an insurance certificate. Please let us know in advance if you are missing the keys or documents so we are fully prepared when we arrive for collection. STEP 3: WE SCRAP THE VEHICLE
On request, we’re happy to provide you with a certificate of destruction. This document serves as proof that your vehicle has been scrapped legally and responsibly.
A Certificate of Destruction is a vital document that serves as a record of the lawful and environmentally friendly disposal of your vehicle, ensuring no further legal obligations towards it. Once scrapped, your vehicle will be deregistered from the DVLA records, and the Certificate of Destruction is evidence of this fact, in case anything goes wrong. While we never put a scrapped vehicle back on the road, it happens elsewhere. The Certificate of Destruction protects you from any potential liabilities associated with the vehicle, such as traffic fines or tax obligations, should it find it’s way back to the road, as it confirms that you no longer own the vehicle.
STEP 4: CHECK YOUR ROAD TAX STATUS
The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) will take care of refunding any outstanding road tax you may have, or stop your direct debit if you pay monthly. This ensures you’re not out of pocket for a vehicle you no longer possess. You don’t need to do anything after scrapping your vehicle as the refund/cancellation process is automatical. You’ll receive a refund for any full months of unused road tax, but you will lose any part used months, even if it’s the first day of the month.
You should receive a cheque within 6 weeks of the DVLA being informed about the scrapping of your vehicle. However, if you haven’t received your refund after 6 weeks, contacting the DVLA is recommended to investigate the matter. Remember, the refund is calculated from the date the DVLA receives your information, not the date your vehicle was scrapped.
